Volunteer workshops help local clubs
Saturday, 6 October, 2012
As part of Bedell Volunteers’ Week the Sports Commission organised some volunteer support workshops here in Guernsey. These workshops were aimed at the volunteer co-ordinators in local sports clubs that enabled them to develop ideas about how they could best recruit new volunteers and look after them whilst supporting the clubs activities.
The workshops were delivered by Anna Quick from Knight, Kavanagh & Page on behalf of Sport England at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre on Friday 5th & Saturday 6th October. They were attended by a range of different sports which included football, rugby, tennis, fencing, athletics, gymnastics, cricket, table tennis, volleyball & shooting. The workshops had the following topic areas:
SEMINAR TOPIC 1: Do we really need more volunteers? How to make better use of our existing volunteers
Are you frustrated with constantly having to find new people to help out your club?
Are you getting the best out of those that are volunteering at your club?
Do you know the best way to reward and recognise those that help out?
SEMINAR TOPIC 2: Building a workforce – volunteer recruitment
Are you looking for more people to help out at your club?
Do you have a role that needs filling?
Would you like to attract new volunteers with fresh ideas and enthusiasm?
SEMINAR TOPIC 3: Role of the Volunteer Co-ordinator – can volunteers be better managed in your club?
Are you looking to manage your volunteers better?
Are you looking to recruit more volunteers to your club?
Do you constantly have to try and find new people to help out?
Oliver Tracey, Marketing & Administration officer at the Sports Commission, highlighted that “we aimed to offer this workshop to allow sports clubs to recruit more volunteers into their sports clubs, and any of our 48 member sports were offered places on these workshops for free, and serves as just one example of the way in which we support local sports clubs on the island”.
The workshops served as the last event within Bedell Volunteers’ Week and a review video is available to view on our YouTube channel highlighting all the events from the week.
