Local sportsman Mitch Agnelli recently travelled to Amsterdam to compete in the Judo World Veterans Championships. He managed to defeat his opponents to win the gold medal and the title of World Veteran Judo Champion of 2015.

There were over 1,400 entries over the 4 day competition. Mitch represented the Great Britain Masters in the  70 year old age group at Under 81 kilos category. Mitch is a competition 2nd Dan and competed with four other 3rd Dan entries, two from Germany and one Austrian.

Mitch has competed at a number of Veteran events in the UK as well as in France this year, to prepare for the competition. He has also worked hard on maintaining his fitness and improving his upper body strength.

Mitch commented: “I would like to dedicate my World Championship medal to the memory of my wife Val who has supported me throughout my judo career, it is so sad that she isn’t here to share in my success. I would like to add a big thank you to my support team, Ady Carre and Simon Renouf,  who flew over just to make sure that I wasn’t on my own in what could be a rather intimidating environment.”
