Seventh Annual Girls Convention Gives Girls Positive Sport Experience
17th June 2016
On Wednesday the 15th of June 60 year 9 girls from five different schools across the island joined us for our seventh annual M&S Girls Convention. The aim is to give young women a positive experience of sport and physical activity by offering a variety of activities that do not form part of the regular curriculum.
This year the girls tried Boxercise/Self Defence, Street Dance, Tennis, TRX, Zumba and a mindset workshop. Marks & Spencer sponsors the event and provide a tasty healthy lunch and a goody bag for each girl.
Sports Development Officer at the Guernsey Sports Commission, Jenny Murphy, thanks M&S for their support and highlighted that without their support the day wouldn’t take place. “We aim to support everyone to participate in sport and/or physical activity. We know there are barriers to overcome to achieve this, especially for young women. We hope the Girls Convention will provide a springboard to participation”.
