Brooks Macdonald High Performance Programme Member Maya Le Tissier Nominated for National Award
6th October 2016
Local Footballer Maya Le Tissier has been nominated for the Sporting Chance Awards, hosted by the Lord’s Taverners. Maya is among four individuals nominated for the Young Female Sportsperson of the Year award category.
The award celebrates the achievements of young disadvantaged or disabled people who have refused to be defined by their circumstances and excelled at their chosen sports.
The awards also recognise the invaluable contributions of some of the people behind the scenes, the organisers and coaches, the parents, carers and supporters.
Chris Walker from the Lord’s Taverners came over to Guernsey this week to meet with Maya and film her training at the Brooks Macdonald High Performance Gym with Strength and Conditioning Coach Andrew Perkins. He later visited St Martins Football Club to watch Maya train with her dad and coach Darren.
Jeremy Frith, Performance Director at the Guernsey Sports Commission commented “We are delighted that Maya’s commitment and determination have been recognised along with all the other nominees. It’s a real privilege to work with someone as motivated as Maya and on behalf of the staff on the Brooks Macdonald High Performance Programm- we are extrmemly proud of her. She is a great role model for not only girls but all sports people on the island.”
The interviews and footage Chris recorded will be used to introduce Maya’s nomination at the Sporting Chance Awards ceremony on the 21st of October at Guildhall in London.
