Friday, 17 February, 2017

23 Children from local schools; Beechwood, Haute Capelles, Le Hougette, Forest, St Martins, Blanchelande and Notre Damn all enjoyed taking part in yesterdays squash festival at Beau Sejour. This free event was organised by The Guernsey Sports Commission who teamed up with Guernsey Squash.

The afternoon consisted of a friendly squash tournament with each individual representing a specific country. Players from each country played other individuals from the other various countries in a tournament like system matching children against similar level opponents. This allowed for every child to take part in the festival regardless of their level in the sport and enjoy some competitive games whilst learning about the sport.

The Guernsey Sports Commission team were on the lookout for; Good sportsmanship, Fair play and all round effort throughout the afternoon. Thomas M, Niamh C and Edward L were all awarded ‘Player Of The Day’ medals for demonstrating this excellently.

The overall tournament winners were Thomas Le B, Henry C, Evan H and Christina J, proudly representing their country, France

The second free squash festival for year 4 children will take place after half term, on Thursday 23rd March and will be available to students from; Vale, LMDC, Vauvert, Castel, Amherst and St Mary St Michael.
