La Houguette Win First Inter Primary Schools Tennis Festival

23rd June 2017

The Guernsey Tennis Club was the venue for the first BNP Paribas Inter Primary Schools Tennis Festival to take place in Guernsey. 8 schools entered teams into the festival which saw all schools split into 3 groups to play series of round-robin timed matches. All players played on quarter sized courts using sponges balls – this proved to be a great leveller and meant for many high scoring and close games.

The schools then progressed onto a second group stage depending on their placing during the first stage of matches. La Houguette, Beechwood Tigers, Vale and Vauvert progressed into Group A, Beechwood Lions, Notre Dame, Hautes Capelles Cubs and Hautes Capelles Bears formed Group B and Melrose, Castel, Beechwood Pumas and St Martins made up Group C.

Schools played play off games to decide overall standings with La Houguette claiming 1st place. Fair play awards were presented to Castel and Notre Dame for their sportsmanship, encouragement and attitude during the afternoon.

In total 190 games of tennis were played by 36 children over just under 3 hours! The event was well supported by students from the GCFE who had recently completed their level 1 assistant course. Thank you for your support!
