Batonbearers for Visit of QBR Announced
3rd August 2017
On Saturday 9th September the Bailiwick of Guernsey will welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay as it reaches the 45th nation on the 288 day international sector of the relay. An ambitious journey to connect with the modern and diverse Commonwealth of today, the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) will achieve two records – it will be the longest relay ever, and the most accessible relay to date.
The Relay started at Buckingham Palace on Monday 13th March 2017 – Commonwealth Day. At the commencement ceremony Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, placed Her message into the Baton and entrusted its journey with the many batonbearers who will carry it around the Commonwealth.
The Baton will be the most accessible yet: not just passing through, but spending quality time in each Relay community. This will give more than one-third of the world’s population, the opportunity to have a memorable experience with the Baton and Share the Dream of the QBR and GC2018.
On Monday 11th September the Queen’s Baton Relay will visit every Primary School in Guernsey. The Relay will commence at Vale Primary at 9am and finish at LMDC Primary at 3pm. As part of each school’s involvement, 2 children have been chosen to represent their school and will part of the lucky group to carry the Queen’s Baton.
