Family Fun Day Returns for the Third Year

30th August 2017

The Guernsey Sports Commission and Generali Worldwide are inviting islanders to try a new sport and have fun the KGV playing fields on September 16th, as the Family Fun Day returns for its third year.

With over ten different sports on offer, there will be something for everyone to try, regardless of their age or level of fitness.

Organisers hope islanders will discover a new activity or sport and the day is part of the Get Active, Stay Active initiatives. Sports coaches and volunteers will be on hand to help people of all abilities try something new.

Anyone can have a go at rugby, volleyball, tennis, dance, boxing, softball, squash, football, hockey and athletics, activity challenges and free play. The afternoon is a chance to pick up a bat, take a swing, test your ball skills or even learn some new dance moves for your next party.

There will be a picnic area and BBQ food available, so the Guernsey Sports Commission hopes that families will make an afternoon of it, with balloons, face painting and bouncy castles to keep the youngsters entertained.

Children will also enjoy meeting Darcy the Donkey, the Guernsey Islands Games team mascot. She will be joined by Guernsey FC’s Roary the Lion and Male Uprising Guernsey’s Louis the Lobster, as they all make a guest appearance during the day.

It is thanks to Generali Worldwide’s generous donation to the Sports Commission in 2015 that the Family Fun Day can return for the third year.

‘We are continually trying to bring the benefits of an active lifestyle to the widest possible audience through our Get Active, Stay Active initiative.

‘This day encourages people to try something new in a relaxed, non-competitive environment. We hope it will be the starting point for a new hobby or activity that can help people keep fit and healthy,’ says Jenny Murphy, Sports Development Officer for the Guernsey Sports Commission.

All the sports activities are free of charge and the day promises to be a fun and healthy way for families to spend a few hours together.

Giorgio Daboni, Chief Executive Officer of Generali Worldwide in Guernsey, comments: ‘The past two Family Fun Days have been a tremendous success and we are very pleased to know that our donation to the Sports Commission has had such a lasting impact. Children and adults are able to try something new and feel the benefits that an active lifestyle brings.’
