Guernsey Sitting Volleyball to Play Team GB
6th September 2017
This coming weekend, the Guernsey Volleyball Association’s sitting volleyball squad will be making a trip to the UK, and this time they’ll be taking on not just local, but international opposition.
Day 1, Saturday 9 September, sees them take on their favourite rivals, South Hants. These teams have met numerous times now and with the Sarnians having taken the honours when South Hants came over in April, it’s sure to be a hotly-contested encounter. The teams will be joined by Essex Pirates and Lavia Copenhagen; the latter are also flying in for the event. This will be the first time the Guernsey team has played the Essex and Copenhagen teams, meaning they’ll have to quickly adapt their play as they go.
Day 2, Sunday 10 September will not include Essex Pirates, but they will be replaced by a daunting alternative: Team GB women will join the event. This is the second time Guernsey has played Team GB, having beaten them this time last year, so they will be keen to do the same again.
Guernsey coach Jo Turville said: ‘The team has grown in strength and depth this year, bringing both experienced volleyballers and beginners into the fray, many of whom will be pitting their skills on court this weekend. It’s an exciting next step in the development of the squad.’
Results and progress will be posted on social media as the matches take place.
