Sport Vouchers Reward for Photo Challenge Winners

5th July 2018

A sports-themed photo competition which challenged schools, children and adults to have a photo taken wearing their trainers has rewarded two winners with £250 vouchers for Fletcher Sports.

Run in conjunction with the Guernsey Sports Commissions ‘Sport Your Trainers’ initiative, the challenge saw individuals and schools take creative photos and post them on social media.

The individual prize was awarded to 11 year old Hautes Capelles pupil Phoebe Smart, who took a photo of herself jumping while watching runners in the half-marathon, whilst an entry from Mr Le Page’s class at La Mare De Carteret Primary School, which had all their trainers laid out in the shape of a trainer and was surrounded by the children, saw the school win the schools prize.

Ravenscroft, which donated the vouchers as part of the challenge, also donated a further £1 for each entry.

‘The Guernsey Sports Commission does amazing work introducing young people to different sports and teaching them about the many benefits of being active. Ravenscroft is a passionate supporter of sport at a grass roots level as we are firm believers in developing potential and so we wanted to help the Sports Commission team with its Sport Your Trainers day, which not only generated much-needed funds for them to carry on their work but also raised awareness of the wide-ranging initiatives which they organise. We were delighted with how many entries there were and the level of creativity shown by schools and individuals,’ said Katrina Bray, marketing and PR executive for Ravenscroft.

The ‘Sports Your Trainers’ initiative raised close to £4,000 for the Guernsey Sports Commission and the various programmes that they deliver in the community.

‘This is the first year of the Sport Your Trainers initiative and we were delighted with the response from the local community. Every pound donated will go towards supporting the various programmes that the Commission delivers each day in schools and in wider community. We would like to thank the schools, businesses and individuals for taking part and also to Ravenscroft Group for their generous donation towards the photo challenge competition,’ said Ollie Dowding, PE and Sport Development Officer for the Guernsey Sports Commission.
