Coaches Work Towards Level 2 in Multi Skills Development

14th September 2018

Development Officers and coaches in Guernsey have been working towards achieving a Level 2 in Multi Skills Development in Sport. The 13 candidates attended 3 days of practical and theoretical delivery at Beau Sejour.

The UKCC2 Course is designed to support coaches working with everyone from young children to mature adults in a variety of settings including, schools, clubs and community centres.

The course has introduced coaches to the Youth Physical Development Model based on the latest research around long term athlete development and supports them to identify appropriate age and stage appropriate information and activity.

A UKCC2 in the minimum standard qualification for working as a coach in schools. Getting these qualifications not only improves coaching practice but importantly provides a baseline of minimum standards for our coaches leading activity with young people.

Jeremy Frith, from the Guernsey Sports Commission, was full of praise for the team from UK Coaching. 'We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received from UK Coaching over the past 6 months both with this course and supporting our work in schools. Our tutors Adrian Smith and Paul Hughes added a huge amount of value to those attending and we look forward to seeing hem back here in October when the coaches have their final assessment.' he said.

Going forwards this is course that the Guernsey Sports Commission aims to be able to deliver itself in the future so the initial investment will allow us to become increasingly self-sufficient moving forwards.
