At the Sporting Achievement Awards held on 11th January 2005 the Guernsey Sports Commission inducted ten of the most significant individual sports persons that the Island has ever produced into this new venture - Guernsey's Sporting Heroes, which is displayed in the concourse of Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.

To be inducted into Guernsey's Sporting Heroes the Sports Commission's Awards Group ask you to answer the following questions when nominating someone:

1] Is the nominee to be considered an inspirational role model by their peers and others?

2] Has the nominee performed / succeeded on the world stage over a reasonable period

3] Is the nominee from a sport recognized by the Guernsey Sports Commission?

4] Is the nominee considered to be from Guernsey?

5] If not, do you consider that Guernsey has been a significant part of their development?

6] Has the nominee, under the rules of the relevant International governing body, represented Guernsey?

These criteria ensure that entry into the select group is recognition of effort and commitment over a number of years and is in effect a reward for a sporting career well spent. The intention was to induct more members at subsequent Sporting Achievement Awards over the coming years to recognise Performance, Inspiration, Commitment and Longevity.
