GIAAC seeks new Chairperson

September 22, 2020

Guernsey Athletics is looking to appoint a new Chairperson to help lead the sport and direct its strategy and vision.

Athletics is growing in popularity across all its disciplines helped by the sport’s volunteer and paid coach workforce and the recent £1million investment by the States of Guernsey in a new running track.

‘This is a great opportunity for someone to be at the absolute heart of the further development of athletics in the island and help us continue to move forward at this exciting time,’ said Liz Powell from the GIAAC.

‘We are looking for someone with the drive and enthusiasm to lead our sport and most importantly ensure that we are operating safely and sustainably.’

Applications for the voluntary post are invited from people with strong leadership, decision-making and management skills with an interest in athletics who are keen to give something back to the sport. They will need to chair Board Meetings approximately every six weeks and be responsible for directing the vision and strategy and the plans, policies and financial investment required to ensure the GIAAC Board achieves its stated aims.

‘It’s important that every sport demonstrates good governance and the Guernsey Sports Commission is pleased to be supporting the GIAAC in its search for a suitable candidate,’ said Steve Sharman, Relationship Director for the Commission.

‘A strong and committed chairperson can make a huge difference to a sporting organisation and this is a great opportunity for someone to get involved in further developing one of Guernsey’s most successful and high-profile sports.’
