The Guernsey Sports Commission provide a range of support mechanisms open to sports clubs, coaches and anyone looking to continue their professional development.
Our Charity promotes Sport & Physical Activity in Guernsey and relies on the support from the public and corporate sponsors to continue our work on the Island. Are you a sportsperson/team who competes at a high (county or above) level, and wishes to compete off-Island? Do you need to travel off-Island in order to gain sports coaching/refereeing/judging qualifications? Are you a sports group who wish to bring a professional referee/coach over to Guernsey? If the answer to any of the above is yes, then the Sports Development Unit may be able to help you out. The Unit administers the Sports Development Fund, the Under 18s Fund which is used to develop local sports people by helping to fund activities outside of Guernsey.
Sports Guernsey exists to help provide funding for sports events which attract visiting competitors and spectators to Guernsey and which are also going to be attractive events for the local community. Sports Guernsey is particularly interested in helping sports with funding for new or one off Sports Events with the above aims. Sports Guernsey have been instrumental in helping with a whole host of sporting events.
The Sports Commission have 49 different member sports who also require continued volunteer support in a variety of different ways. Our members sports range from Bowls, Rugby, Sailing, Cricket, Fencing and a variety of Motor Sports. From transporting players to and from games, running the cafe, recording results or marshaling an event. All of these roles remain key, and are required if sports clubs are to function correctly. The Guernsey Sports Commission have a range of administration jobs which require support and would welcome any individuals who can spare their time to support us with data inputting, report creating, letter writing and minute taking. Oliver, is in charge of marketing at the Commission and is keen to seek out new ideas and designs for his marketing literature, and welcomes support with graphic design, article writing, press releases, video promotion and photography.
The Guernsey Sports Commission run a number of coaching workshops & training opportunities throughout the year. These courses are provided for sports coaches, sports leaders, volunteers and anyone with an interest in furthering their sporting ability. These courses are provided to ensure that coaches can remain skilled, and can further their continued professional development (CPD). These courses are also provided to enable all coaches to fulfill the minimum standards for deployment required by a range of National Sporting Governing Bodies.
