We run a number of programmes throughout the year that provide participants of all ages the chance to take part in sport & physical activity. We anticipate that these opportunities will ‘inspire’ participants to enjoy sport and the values attributed to it. The video playlist below showcases some of the programmes we offer. Click the drop down menu above to read more about each programme.
The Sporting Achievement Awards serves as a time when all of our islands sports stars can join together to celebrate the best sporting achievements from the previous calendar year.
The Brooks Macdonald High Performance Programme is in place to ensure that being from Guernsey is an advantage rather than a disadvantage in achieving an elite level of sporting performance. The commission is working to develop a range of athlete services in partnership with numerous local organisations and individuals to better provide for our emerging and elite sports people.
PE in Schools
Kerri, Ollie & Steph work across the board with 4-11 year olds while running the P.E. in schools programme that targets all primary school children with different projects including P.E. lessons, Fit clubs and Sports Festivals.
The Specsavers Youth Games is an inter-parish sports competition for teams and individuals. It encourages all participants to try new sports they haven't been involved with previously. The entrants are from Years 5 and 6 from local primary schools and represent ages 9-11. The principle aim of the Games is to promote the value of sport to the young people of Guernsey and therefore the emphasis is on fun, fair play and the creation of a festival atmosphere so young people can experience the feeling of participating in a large-scale sporting event.
On Your Marks
The On Your Marks programme, supported by Marks and Spencers, provides an opportunity for children in Primary and Secondary School the chance to participate in a range of different sports for only £1-£3 per session. The programme is offered in half-term in February, May and October, and is also held during the Easter and summer holidays. The support from Mark and Spencers allows us to offer a range of different sports and ensures that price is not a factor limiting participation in any of the activities.
At the Sporting Achievement Awards held on 11th January 2005 the Guernsey Sports Commission inducted ten of the most significant individual sports persons that the Island has ever produced into this new venture - Guernsey's Sporting Heroes, which is displayed in the concourse of Beau Sejour Leisure Centre.
The Guernsey Sports Commission (GSC) promotes physical activity and encourages participation across all sports at all levels. Street Sports is an initiative run by the GSC offering 11-18 year olds of all abilities the chance to participate in a range of sports and physical activities in the evenings free of charge. It is an opportunity for young people to be active, have fun and learn new skills.
Women in Sport
The Guernsey Sports Commission (GSC) aims to support everyone to participate in sport and physical activity. We host different events within the year that specifically provide opportunities for women to participate in new activities.
