GSC aims to keep children and young people active during summer holidays

June 30, 2020

The Guernsey Sports Commission is once again going to be delivering a range of sports-based activities throughout the summer holidays as part of its popular On Your Marks programme.

‘We want to keep children and young people active throughout the summer but most of all we want them to have fun,’ said Jenny Murphy, Sports Development Officer for the Commission.

Offering everything from sailing to circus skills, beach games to badminton, the On You Marks sessions are always popular.

‘We offer Fun and Fit sessions for children from Reception to Year 2, Multisports for Years 3 to 6 plus various sports and activities for Years 6 to 11,’ said Jenny.

Thanks to financial support from Help A Guernsey Child, all the On Your Marks activities are £1 per hour with sessions for primary age children usually based at the Grammar School and those for older pupils at Beau Sejour or Vazon beach.

‘All our sessions are very popular so we would advise parents to sign up as soon as possible to ensure that they get the dates that they want. All the information and booking forms are on our website so take a look.

‘We are also hosting some special sport-specific events – a netball camp and a football tournament in August for those who would like to take part.’

The GSC Netball Camp runs from 24th to 25th August for Years 5 and 6 and 26th and 27th August for Years 7 and 8. The two-day camps start at 9.30am to 3pm at Beau Sejour.

The Football Tournament is also split into two age groups – Years 7 to 9 playing on 11th August and Years 10 to 12 on 13th August. Individuals can sign up or young people can put together a team of 7 to compete.

‘Everyone is welcome to sign up to whichever sessions they are interested in, up to a maximum of 15 dates per child. We are looking forward to seeing as many young people as possible over the summer.’
