GSC continues to support school PE as lockdown extended

April 21, 2020

The Guernsey Sports Commission has stepped up to provide further help and support to teachers and parents following the news that schools are likely to remain closed until the end of May.

PE and Sports Development Officers have been producing a range of inclusive and progressive ‘PE at Home’ videos which all schools will have access to.

‘We hope that teachers and families will find the resources helpful over the coming weeks,’ said Ollie Dowding, PE and Sport Development Officer for the Commission.

‘The videos focus on many of the Fundamental Movement Skills which are firmly embedded into the PE curriculum within Guernsey Schools.’

The support from the Commission has been welcomed by schools.

‘La Houguette teachers were thrilled to see this resource,’ said Claire Judd, the school’s Headteacher.

‘It fits exactly with our curriculum, is fun, flexible, easy to follow and developmental. Good physical and mental wellbeing is an important focus for us, particularly in these times and we greatly appreciate the ‘experts’ showing us the way. We can’t wait to get using this brilliant resource. Thank you GSC!’

All the PE at Home videos are available on the Guernsey Sports Commission's YouTube channel

The PE at Home videos are in addition to the range of #ChallengeGuernsey videos the Sports Commission has been sharing to help keep the community active during the extended Easter holidays.

Children and young people have been sharing their scores for the various challenges to be included on a Weekly Challenge leaderboard. After each week all entries that have made the top 20 will be entered into a draw at the end of lockdown with the chance of winning £250 worth of PE equipment for their school.
