Coach Mentoring Scheme launched in partnership with Ravenscroft

July 13, 2022

Newly qualified sports coaches will have the chance to be mentored by a legend of local sport thanks to a new partnership between the Guernsey Sports Commission and Ravenscroft.

Colin Fallaize is highly regarded as a football coach and manager but is well known in wider sporting circles and the community in general.

‘Colin has more than 40 years of local coaching experience and this initiative will be to assist newly qualified coaches and build their confidence working within their individual sports,’ said Steve Sharman, the Commission’s Relationship Director.

‘We’re aiming for Colin to work with a maximum of five coaches at a time and these will be identified by those sports that have or are working towards SportsMark and who have coaches who have either completed the Multi-Skills Level 2 course or their own National Governing Body Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualification.

‘We hope Colin will be able to share his own expertise and support these individuals to understand the context of being a coach in Guernsey and well as helping them to improve their communication, planning, self-reflection and generally understanding the challenges of working across different age and ability groups,’ said Steve.

‘We want these new coaches to have a firm understanding of what success looks like and we know that Colin has all the skills and experience to help them be the best they can be.

‘This partnership with Ravenscroft supports the Commission’s objective to continue developing a qualified, well trained and effective workforce.’

Ravenscroft already has a close association with Colin through its support of Rangers FC but felt there were more people who could benefit from his experience.

‘The Sports Commission is doing a fantastic job in ensuring that coaches across all sports have the right skills they need. The majority of players become coaches because they love their sport and want to share their enjoyment with others. They have the passion and the enthusiasm, but it can be difficult to channel that in the right way. Ravenscroft has been working with Colin over the last year and it is very obvious that he has the right experience to mentor the next generation of coaches,’ said group managing director Mark Bousfield.

Colin will meet with each coach four times a year.
