Guernsey’s winning ways continue in the Running World Cup 2023. Competing as part of the smaller European nations, the island narrowly beat Namibia in the quarter finals and now face Ukraine this weekend. It was a big deal to beat Namibia as they are previous finalists.

Up next is Ukraine and the local organisers are encouraging everyone to sign up and start recording miles. https://runningworldcup.com/

Alun Williams commented:

'There are various ways to score points but big bonus points can be gained when runners accumulate 20 km over the weekend. It’s great to see we have the Guernsey athletics 15-mile cliff path on Sunday.

'We are also offering an additional 3 mile run after parkrun on Saturday morning so that runners can get a few more miles in. Anyone who fancies running just meet up at the parkrun finish at 9.35am.'

The Running World Cup is the world’s first world cup competition where anyone can sign up for free to compete to run for their own country. Qualifying is open to runners of all levels (over the age of 13 years). Every participant who completes three kilometres in under 30 minutes on a smart phone or smart device contributes towards their country’s total.

So far there are runners from 200 countries signed-up. With Guernsey running as Channel Islands, it is set to be an exciting challenge.
