Children at St Martin’s Primary School will be benefitting from some new PE equipment after pupil Louis Luxton was drawn as the winner of a £500 voucher at the recent Utmost Community Sport Fun Day organised by the Guernsey Sports Commission.

Louis, aged 7, was one of hundreds of children who completed ten or more sports challenges at the Fun Day trying out some of the 21 different sports on offer. His completed Challenge Card was the first one drawn from the hat winning the prize for his school.

St Martin’s PE Coordinator Claire Le Prevost said the school is now thinking about what to spend the money on but was keen to hear what Louis would like.

‘We are a big school with lots of children and so we always need to be updating and improving our PE equipment, so this is going to be a great help.’

Louis’ favourite sport is tennis.

‘I like that you get to hit the balls and it’s really fun,’ he said.

This year’s Utmost Community Sport Fun Day was once again a great success,

‘It was an absolutely fantastic day,’ said Nicky Will from the Commission.

‘We know that engaging in sport has a positive impact on our physical and mental health.

‘To be able to have so many different sports all in the same place at the same time sends such a powerful message that Guernsey is a great place to get involved in all these activities, whether playing, officiating, coaching or volunteering, and this love and enjoyment of sport really needs to start at school,’ said Nicky.

Sponsors of the event Utmost thoroughly enjoyed the day and were pleased to be able to celebrate the win with Louis and some of his friends at school.

‘We are delighted to be able to support the community and our schools to encourage taking part in sport and leading an active life,’ said Virginia Alcoba Segura from Utmost.
