Following the hugely successful inaugural event last year, Sport in the Library is back again this November.
The joint initiative by the Guille-Allès Library and Sports Commission will see pickleball, table tennis, archery, fencing, boxing, and darts take over where bookshelves and desks usually stand.
‘Last year’s event was such a huge success we knew we had to repeat it this year,’ said Nicky Will from the Sports Commission.
‘The weather in November can often restrict the opportunity for people to be active but thanks to the support of the Library we are going to be offering some fun indoor sporting activities for all ages right in the heart of the Town.’
Library staff are also delighted to see the return of the event.
‘We could not believe how busy we were last year,’ said Jackie Burgess, Community and Wellbeing Lead for the Guille-Allès.
‘Supporting health and wellbeing is a key part of the Library’s mission, and we hope the event will highlight that sport is accessible to all and can be played anywhere, any time.
‘We will also be encouraging both children and adults to pick up a book with an area set aside for reading and exploring some of the sports books we have available,’ said Jackie.
The event will once again take over rooms on the top floor of the library including the Hayward Room and mezzanine.
‘We are delighted that some of our member sports have risen to the occasion once again to join us for this year’s event,’ said Nicky.
‘There’s no skateboarding this year as they are busy working on their new indoor ramps in St Andrew’s but there should be something for everyone with the emphasis on fun and participation.’
Sport in the Library 2 is taking place on Saturday 23rd November between 10am and 2pm on the upper floor of the Guille-Alles Library and is free to attend.
