Sport in the Library returns

November 7, 2025

The hugely popular Sport in the Library is back again this November for the third year running.

The joint initiative by the Guille-Allès Library and Sports Commission will see golf, table tennis, boxing and ‘Hands Up’ volleyball take over where bookshelves and desks usually stand.

‘This will be the third year that sport takes over the top floor of the library and we love to think outside the box about what activities we can include,’ said Nicky Will from the Sports Commission.

‘The weather in November can often restrict the opportunity for people to be active but thanks to the support of the Library we are going to be offering some fun indoor sporting activities for all ages and abilities right in the heart of the Town.’

Library staff are also delighted to see the return of the event.

‘We could not believe how busy we were again last year,’ said Jackie Burgess, Community and Wellbeing Lead for the Guille-Allès.

‘Supporting health and wellbeing is a key part of the Library’s mission, and we hope the event will highlight that sport is accessible to all and can be played anywhere, any time.

‘We will also be encouraging both children and adults to pick up a book with an area set aside for reading and exploring some of the sports books we have available,’ said Jackie.

The event will once again take over rooms on the top floor of the library including the Hayward Room and gallery.

‘We are delighted that some of our member sports have risen to the occasion once again to join us for this year’s event,’ said Nicky.

‘We will be setting up a fun putting game in the Hayward room, hopefully using some of the bookshelves and other equipment as obstacles and providing scorecards so people can try to improve their shots. Plus we’re excited to welcome Guernsey Volleyball who will be showcasing a new seated version of the sport that’s accessible for all ages and abilities and great fun to try.

‘We’re also welcoming back Guernsey Boxing who have supported this event every year plus we’ll be turning some of the library tables into mini table tennis tables for everyone to enjoy.’

Sport in the Library 3 is taking place on Saturday 22nd November between 10am and 2pm on the upper floor of the Guille-Alles Library and is free to attend.
