The Guernsey Sports Commission, in conjunction with the Active 8 Inclusion Officer, are hosting a special sports taster event for people with visual impairments or those keen to find out more about how to adapt activities for those with sight difficulties.
Football, Hockey, Athletics and Boccia will all be on offer at Footes Lane between 4.30 and 6.00pm on Friday 4th October for all ages and abilities to try (please note activities are weather dependent).
‘We recently held a British Blind Sport training course for our staff and a number of sport specific development officers and so we thought it would be great if we could put our skills to the test,’ said Nicky Will from the Sports Commission.
‘We look forward to welcoming anyone with a visual impairment whatever their age or ability as well as anyone interested in trying some of the adapted sports on offer.’
Caroline Barby, Inclusion Officer for the States of Guernsey’s Active 8 Sports Strategy said:
‘One of the main aims of Active 8 is to encourage more islanders to be more active more often and so it’s important we provide opportunities for all members of the community to be involved in sport.
‘We’ve already had some success with the launch of guide runners through Guernsey Athletics but it’s great to have other sports interested in offering further tasters,’ said Caroline.
‘Please come along and give it a go.’
Anyone interested in coming along is asked to sign up at info@guernseysports.com so we can manage coach/staff numbers etc.
